Powelltown - Ada Tree

Powelltown - Ada Tree

Walk through rainforest to the Ada Tree, a giant mountain ash that's one of Victoria's largest trees. Around 270 years old, it's about 76 metres tall with a circumference of 15 metres.

Walk details are:
Location: Near Noojee, Yarra State Forest
Distance: 3.2km return
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

How to get there: From Melbourne, head east along the Princes Freeway (M1), turn left at the Drouin exit (C426) and follow the signs to Noojee. From Noojee, follow Yarra Junction-Noojee Road (C425) and turn at Big Creek Road (unsealed). The trail begins at the car park.

The turn-off to Big Creek Road is 23 km from Yarra Junction and then it is 24 km along Big Creek Road which is a forest road.

Access for Dogs:

The walk is located in the Yarra State Forest, so dogs are permitted but will need to remain on a leash.

Review:

Make sure you access the Ada Tree via Big Creek Road which is a turnoff from the Yarra Junction - Noojee Road. Other routes are only suitable for four wheel drive vehicles. The car park is 24 km from the main turnoff. The walk to the tree is through a lovely environment with information boards along the way. The tree has a massive girth of 15m and has a boardwalk around it. You can get to the tree via the 1.5km long Island Creek track or the less interesting 1.8 km Management Vehicle Track. There is a shelter with tables at the car park.
