Upper Yarra Museum (Yarra Junction)

Upper Yarra Museum (Yarra Junction)

The Upper Yarra Museum is the only surviving railway station on the Lilydale to Warburton line. The Museum is an invaluable repository of the Upper Yarra and Yarra Valley history, heritage and stories. Rail, timber, tramways, machinery, agriculture, pioneers, blacksmiths, The Great War and domestic life are among the strong collection themes.

Review:

A real bargain at $10 for a family, especially when you consider that all entry fees are used for the restoration and maintenance of the heritage site including collections.

The museum is operated by enthusiastic volunteers and so the opening times are quite restricted, Wednesday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm and the third Saturday of the month from 11am to 4pm.

There is plenty to see by wandering around outside in the grounds as well as inside the restored railway station. If you browse around at leisure, you could spend an hour or so here. There is informative signage and four continuous audio-visual presentations positioned throughout the precinct to complement the exhibits.

The museum is conveniently located near public toilets, a nice fenced playground, skate park, Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail, Yarra Junction Aquatic Centre and cafes.
