Chelsea Beach

Chelsea Beach

Chelsea Beach is 1.5 km long straight stretch of sand between Bonbeach and Edithvale. The beach is patrolled by the Chelsea Longbeach Life Saving Club.

Chelsea beach is situated between Edithvale and Bonbeach and is a popular summer beach with good road access, as well as parking, picnic and park facilities. The beach is safe for swimming and the water is shallow for quite a way out and then gradually deepens.

There is pier towards the south of the life saving club which is lovely for fishing. However do not jump off the pier because it could be dangerous due to the shallow water below.

The beach is located 250 m west of the Chelsea Railway station which is on the Frankston line. There is a busy shopping area next to the Nepean Highway.

Chelsea beach has a General Beach Hazard Rating of 3/10 (Least hazardous) and is patrolled.

Review:

There is ticketed parking in the Camp Street area and very limited street parking. It is ticketed parking 7 days a week including public holidays. The minimum fee is $3.40, hourly rate is $3.40 and all day parking is $12.30. Residents of the City of Kingston can park for free if they display their Kingston Council Parking Permit which is available to all Kingston Council residents. The beach is very close to the Chelsea train station.

There is a nice playground at Victory Park with a lighthouse overlooking the beach. The area next to the playground has a shelter with two picnic tables and BBQs, four unshaded tables, another shelter with two tables, unshaded BBQs, more unshaded tables and toilets. Check out the beautiful mosaic of the weedy sea dragon on the toilet wall.

A deck area between the beach and the playground has three lovely curved wooden seats to enjoy the views and sound of the waves, water tap and beach shower.

50m south of the playground is the Chelsea Longbeach Life Saving Club which is located at the end of The Strand. At the Life Saving Club is another beach shower to wash off all the unwanted sand.

There is a nice long, sandy beach which stretches away in both directions. 100m to the south is a small pier. Don't jump off the pier because the water may be shallow.

South of the pier there are about 18 beach huts set back in the dunes and the sandy beach continues all the way south to Bonbeach beach.
