Sculpture Walk at Montalto Vineyard & Olive Grove (Red Hill South)

Sculpture Walk at Montalto Vineyard & Olive Grove (Red Hill South)

Montalto Vineyard & Olive Grove has a permanent collection of sculpture on the Estate, with 25 pieces available for viewing all year round.

It was John & Wendy Mitchell's desire to combine their passion for the arts with their love of nature and growth that was the birth for the Montalto sculpture collection. The growing collection features works from a number of Australian artists including Sebastian Di Mauro, Marcus Tatton, John Kelly, Phillip Doggett-Williams, Michael Needham and David Waters.

Sculptures are sited throughout the property for visitors to enjoy on a meander throughout the property, or to contemplate as they enjoy lunch in the restaurant or Piazza Cafe.

Update for 2022/23
The winner of the 2022 Montalto Sculpture Prize is 'Terestri Anenemi' by Marcus Tatton and the winner of the 2022 Family Choice non-acquisitive award is 'Tawny Frogmouth' by Renate Crow. The 23 finalists in this year's exhibition will continue to be displayed alongside the permanent collection for visitors to enjoy through until 30th April 2023.

Review:

Montalto Vineyard is one of our favourite destinations - what isn't there to love about this place - wines at your finger tips, lovely indoor and outdoor dining areas which are not too pretentious and a free sculpture trail which has more than 30 permanent exhibits.

As well as the permanent collection, there is the annual Montalto Sculpture Prize Exhibition of Finalists to enjoy each year from February through to end of August. The sculpture trail is approximately 1km in length and suitable for most ages and abilities. It meanders over grassy lawns, gravel pathways and wetland boardwalks. The trail is a bit steep in places and walking shoes are recommended.

It should be noted that children must be supervised, as there are open areas of water and the artwork should be protected by not touching or climbing on any sculptures.

During the day the Piazza Cafe is open and you can either sit among the kitchen gardens or a sheltered Piazza courtyard. In the evening the Montalto Restaurant offers excellent food with great views across the vineyard.
