Melbourne Yoshinkan Aikido (Brunswick West)

Melbourne Yoshinkan Aikido (Brunswick West)

Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art based on the principals of harmony in movement. It is unique among the martial arts as it teaches a non-violent, civilised form of self defence that does not damage or injure the attacker. Through practise of this art people become clam, centred and self assured.

The truest form of training is of the self and Aikido realises the practice of self perfection through aligning the three aspects of a person; the physical, mental and emotional. Through cultivating this centred state, one is able to achieve harmonious interactions in all realms of life.

The Melbourne Yoshinkan Aikido (MYA) dojo is dedicated to passing on this traditional art and it's core values through the observation of Japanese etiquette and cultural ideals.

Being the only foreigner to receive a teaching licence from Takeno Kancho (9th dan) current Saiko Komon (Chief Technical Advisor) of the Aikido Yoshinkan Foundation (AYF) the governing organisation of Yoshinkan Aikido, Koussoulis Sensei 4th dan and MYA Headmaster is well placed to continue the rich tradition of Japanese Budo and introduce people to the many benefits it has to offer.
