Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre (GESAC) (Bentleigh East)

The Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre (GESAC) is one of Australia's premier sports and aquatic centres. The facility has been developed to provide leisure, recreation and wellbeing opportunities for all segments of the community - people aged six months to 75 plus.

The facilities include:
  • 50 metre outdoor pool with eight lap lanes;
  • 25 metre indoor pool with eight lap lanes;
  • Leisure pool with interactive water features and play equipment;
  • Two fun filled water slides;
  • Dedicated aquatic programs pool;
  • Aquatic wellness area (wellness program pool, spa, sauna and steam room);
  • Huge gymnasium with state-of-the art equipment;
  • Personal training;
  • Three group exercise studios offering an extensive range of classes;
  • Accessibility programs for all ages and abilities;
  • Occasional child care;
  • Retail shop;
  • Cafe;
  • Indoor stadium (three multi-purpose courts);
  • Landscaped gardens and barbeque facilities; and
  • Consulting suites offering a range of rehabilitation and wellness services.
Two of the unique features of GESAC are the two thrilling waterslides. The slides twist and turn as you travel in and out of GESAC at high speed, before a final, exciting splashdown. The slides are:

"Ship Wreck" - A fun and electrifying raft slide that can be ridden by two people at once!
"Pirates Plunge" - A traditional body slide that will leave you both exhilarated and soaked!

Both the young and young-at-heart will love the Pirate's Cove Leisure Pool. Hours can be spent exploring the many interactive features of the water playground.

Review:

The main features for kids are two water slides and Pirate's Cove Water Park. The Water Park has a nice spiral slide, two shallow gradient straight slides, smallish barrel which fills up with water and then the water runs over the roof and spreads over the excited kids below plus a range of other small tipping buckets and water sprays.

Two water slides are included in the entrance price - which is good or bad depending on your proposed use of the slides. The Ship Wreck slide is for two people on a raft and is dark but not too twisty or scary. The Pirate's Plunge ride is for one person and you go down on your back. This slide is fast and dark most of the way and could be scary for younger kids going down by themselves. Both slides can be ridden provided you are 110 cm tall - an attendant checks kid's height with a stick which happens to be 110 cm high. After 1pm in the afternoon parties get priority half the time - the moral of that is to come as soon as the slides open in the morning.

The temperature of the water for the rides and water park play area plus the indoor 25m pool was nice and warm. Apart from the Water Park area which is too shallow and busy to swim in, there is a 25m indoor pool which has a two lane wide Aqua Play area. The rest of the pool has lanes for swimming lessons and laps.

There is an outdoor 50m pool with two shade sails, limited grassy area and some tables and chairs plus lounge seats. Overall the Centre has very good facilities but it left us a bit flat and parties and swimming lessons seemed to have a much higher emphasis than casual attendees.

Great Fun      Posted:    3:49 PM January 15, 2014

The Kids Had a Ball We went to this pool yesterday when it was over 40dg, so needless to say it was packed but the water slides and blow up play thingy are great. We just got back from the QLD theme parks so are used to queues and its expected in school holidays and when it's so hot. The outside pool was refreshingly cool which the mum's enjoyed. we are looking forward to going again when it's less busy - but do highly recommend this pool for fun with the kids. ENJOY :)

As a member here, I am constantly disappointed by the service. The pools are dirty, not even close to enough parking, and is overcrowded. On weekends, the kids area is rented out in sessions to parties, so your kids have to queue up for 20mins to go on a slide, just to be told that a party has booked the slides for the next 30mins. Unhappy faces. The facilities are constantly out of order. Just fixing a drinking tap takes weeks. Paying good money for a membership to go for a swim and a sauna after work shouldn't be so hard, but somehow we get told the pool is 'out of order' or closing early, or opening times have changed. I have driven away from that place within 30mins of getting there so many times now. Checking out the competition, the facilities don't seem to be as good, but are probably more reliable. Perhaps better value. I feel compelled to write this after being turned away at 7pm due to something called 'superclorination', why no signs around the place saying there is scheduled maintenance? Apparently I'm expected to visit the website 'everyday' to ensure they are open.
