Whittlesea Public Gardens, Barry Rd, Lalor

Very interesting and unusual playground. Most of the wooden structures have a slatted roof which provides a degree of shade. The biggest structure has an inclined walkway up to a long metal slide, wooden balance rails, flying fox and vertical square rope climbing frame. Another structure has a ladder which leads to a platform with a wide metal slide and a third structure has a rope traverse. Four swings including one made from a car tyre, series of horizontal bars and wooden wombat statue.

Shelter with tables and BBQs, unshaded tables and seats, water tap and toilets. About 30m away is a large manmade lake with some water birds. There is a walk to a pedestrian overpass over the Hume Highway to the Barry Road Grasslands. Basketball court near the car parking area.

First time I have visited this parkland and I have lived in the shire for over 25yrs. Worst park I have been to ever. My children were too scared to use some of it. Equipment listed above is all still here parts of the floor are missing from the upper structures, posts holding these areas up are all rotting. The grass around one of the unshaded sitting areas was over knee high to my 10yr old. The building housing the toilets is an eyesore with timber missing and badly needing a paint or full replacement. This place has great potential with its walking tracks and open areas for ball sports and large groups to attend, pity the BBQ and playground facilities are in such poor condition. The facilities here a an absolute disgrace to other taxpayers of the Whittlesea City Council particularly when our rates continue to increase and council tells us that we have wonderful parklands to enjoy. If I knew how to add photos I would have!

This is good if you're looking for something different than the usual equipment. The park is also surrounded by short walking paths that are perfect for a stroll with the kids.
