Cape Nelson - The Enchanted Forest Walk

Cape Nelson - The Enchanted Forest Walk

The Scenic Rd, when it reaches the coast from Portand, leads past 'The Enchanted Forest' where an old land slip below the level of the clifftop has been covered by dense vegetation. A 45-minute round trip walk passes through a dense, almost tropical vegetation which creates a unique and enchanting canopy to lookouts and boardwalks with views over the ocean and spectacular cliff formations.

Review:

The walk is in the Discovery Bay Coastal Park area. The start point is along Scenic Road (about 3km before it reaches the Cape Nelson Lighthouse Road from Portland). It is possible to either do a loop (which entails walking back along the road at the end or walk halfway and retrace your steps).

The path descends down steps into an area with bower spinach vines hanging down from Moonah trees which gives the enchanted forest feel. There is a lookout point with great views of waves coming in and filling up a big crack in the rocks.
