A working class type steam train experience compared with the prim and proper Puffing Billy. The condition of some of the carriages is a bit ratty but it all adds to the experience. To get a real steam train experience complete with a face full of soot, the front of the first class carriage has an open platform behind the engine. Wear glasses to stop your eyes getting filled with grit.
When you arrive in Maldon, take the kids to the turntable and watch the train being turned around using the turntable. It is only a short walk into Maldon and there time before the return journey to browse the shops or get a bit to eat.
