Yallourn North - Old Brown Coal Mine Museum

The museum represents the early pioneering days and the history underlying the coal mining process in the Yallourn area.

The museum holds an extensive display of photographic memoriabilia depicting the early days of the old town and open cut, both known as Brown Coal Mine prior to 1947.

An extension to the main building houses a 6 Mega Watt Turbine Generator from the now demolished Yallourn Power Station. The room, known as the Yallourn Power Station Turbine Annexe, also displays other general power station memorabilia.

The Yallourn W Power Station and Open Cut is well represented at the museum with many photos and detailed scale models of the station and open cut dredgers.

Brian Love      Posted:    12:34 PM May 10, 2012

My Name is Brian Love, I live in Bendigo close to where my great grand parents lived for a period Barringup. My grandmother was Vida White who Married Charles McMaster the manager of a shop on the hill. The White family came to The old Brown coal mine around 1902. They purchased a farm known as Whites farm. My knowledge of the family is very brief and I would like to know more. I infact lived with my mother and father in North road approx 1950 to 1953. My mother had three sisters who all grew up on the hill, Laura,Joan Beryl and my mother Norma. Thank you for the opportunity.
