Geelong Waterfront Area

Geelong Waterfront Area

The Geelong Waterfront is a great waterfront redevelopment and the transformation includes new restaurants, beautiful landscaped gardens, walking, cycling and skating paths, attractions and public art.

The central features are Steampacket Quay and Steampacket Gardens where you can take a stroll beside the bay or enjoy a picnic on the lawns. An antique carousel beside the quay is a favourite with youngsters who can do laps on the 36 painted horses and two chariots to familiar melodies from a 19th century fairground organ.

Take a ride on the Giant Sky Wheel which is located on the waterfront.

Enjoy a relaxing 20 minute tour around Geelong's amazing waterfront on the Eastern Beach Train Tour, seeing all that Geelong waterfront has to offer.

On the other side of Beach Road, Customs Park recalls Geelong's maritime importance in an artistic way. Unique metal and glass "cargo boxes" contain examples of the cargoes handled at the port and provide illumination at night. To complete the picture, Waterfront Geelong has modern street lighting and street furniture to match the contemporary feel.

Waterfront Geelong is also a major events venue, with its sweeping lawns and views providing backdrops for markets, sporting events and festivals.

There's also a great range of activities including miniature train rides, jet boats, boat, helicopter and sea plane rides. There are also over 100 delightfully carved and painted bollards scattered about the Waterfront area.
