Tower Hill Reserve
Tower Hill Reserve, nestled inside a dormant volcano, is a lovely haven for wildlife. A lake and wetland are features of the reserve, and during years of average rainfall it is not uncommon to see the wetland completely immersed in water.
Koalas, emus, kangaroos, sugar gliders and many species of water birds, including black swans roam freely throughout the reserve, often within clear view.
Tower Hill is located only 14km west of Warrnambool on the Princes Highway. It is popular among people of all ages for picnics, nature walks and wildlife watching.
Walks which all start from the Picnic Area near the Visitor Centre include:
- Peak Climb - 30 minute steep climb with geology and orientation elements
- Lava Tongue Boardwalk - easy 30 minute walk with wetlands elements
- Journey to the Last Volcano - 1 hour moderate walk with geology elements
- Wagon Bay Loop - 30 minute walk
Review:
This is a great place to spend some time in the Warrnambool area. When we were there we saw five emus and three koalas. There are a number of walks varying from the strenuous to the relaxed. Access is free and it is open at all times.
