Plum Garland Memorial Playground, Beaconsfield Parade, Albert Park

This playground had a major facelift and doubled in size. There are shade sails over the western part and the surface is a giant sandpit.

There is a multi-level structure in a sandpit for hauling up sand in a scoop, swings without safety chain, digger in a sandpit, water play area where you can pump water into a big tank, rope climbing frame and tiny toddler swing.

Outside the shaded area is a curved slide coming down from a boat structure, small dual slides, various sandpits, tunnel, small grassy picnic area, big sit-on carousel for lots of kids, birds nest swing, one picnic table and some relaxing curved seats looking out to the bay. It is landscaped throughout to give a sandy, beachy natural feel.

There is a water tap and the playground is fully fenced. There are toilets at the life saving club 100m away and a kiosk. Volleyball nets are on the beach next to the playground area. Next to bike track so be careful or you risk getting bowled over by a cyclist on the way to the playground! Paid Parking from 8 am - 6 pm.

Seems to have everything for younger kids except Captain Feathersword, Dorothy and Henry the Octopus.

I was at this playground this morning with my two toddlers and was was disgusted with the amount of litter from the weekend. Mainly paper coffee cups & bottles. What a terrible example somw parents set for their children as well as reckless disregard for the environment and other people. I cleaned some of the rubbish up so my children would not have to play amongst rubbish in this beautiful playground.

The new beach park is open (@Jan 2013)! Lots of different equipment to suit all ages, mostly under shade, plus a filtered water fountain. The equipment includes a double slide (toddlers) and a very steep but fun single slide (older kids); tunnels; 3 sets of swings (including a special hard baby swing, but no harnessed swings for toddlers unfortunately); plus some of the old equipment has been recycled including one of the diggers. And lots and lots of sand.

We drove past the other day and noticed that the sand park was being worked on, does anyone know when it is going to finished? Admin - Sent an e-mail to Port Phillip council but they did not respond!

There are toilets at the life saving club 100m away and a kiosk. We play on the beach for an hour (with our dog - allowed all day until Nov 1) and then go to the fenced play area. Heaven. There is a water fountain in the playground.
