Aura Vale Lake Park (Menzies Creek)

Aura Vale Lake is a popular location for boating and other water sports. The lake forms part of a diverse drainage system designed to channel runoff water from the developed areas of the southern fringe of the Emerald ridge. This system prevents polluted water from entering Cardinia Reservoir and affecting the quality of our drinking water.

Things to Do

Due to water pollution Aura Vale Lake is unsuitable for swimming, however the lake has become a popular venue for boating activities such as sailboarding, canoeing and small sail boats up to 3.3 metres
Enjoy a picnic at the Henley Picnic Area.

Looking After the Park
Powerboats are not permitted at Aura Vale Lake.

Precautions
The water quality in Aura Vale Lake is unsuitable for swimming as the lake is the final detention basin for waste drainage water from developed areas on the southern fringe of the Emerald Ridge. A series of open channels, detention basins and a pumping station intercept the drainage and divert it away from Cardinia Dam and into Aura Vale lake.

How to Get There
Access to Aura Vale Lake Park is from Wellington Road or Aura Vale Road, Selby.

Access for Dogs:

Dogs are permitted on a lead at Aura Vale Lake Picnic Area.

Opening Hours:

Aura Vale Lake Park is open every day of the year. The park opens at 9am every day, but closing times vary according to daylight savings. For up to date information on park closing times call the Parks Victoria Information Centre on 13 1963.

Review:

We stopped at a couple of points around the lake. Near the intersection of Aura Vale Road and Old Menzies Creek Road there is a large car park. There is a very short track leading from the carpark towards the lake. We wouldn't recommend stopping here.

The main place to stop is Henleys Picnic Area which is located off Wellington Road. Overall the place is quite decrepit. The toilets were closed due to a plumbing issue (looks like a long term closure based on the forlorn notice on the wall), five picnic tables, seats and an entry area for watercraft (non motor craft). There are no walking tracks around the lake.
