Fenton Reserve, Fenton Way, Kew

Being situated next to a set of large parking areas is not the ideal location for a quiet and safe playground. Main structure has slide, steps, chain climbing wall and multiple shop fronts with some general advertising boards (to get the kids immersed in advertising culture at an early age). Also a taxi springer (to take you to the shops) and swings.

Unshaded tables, shaded seat and water tap. Due to the location this playground seems to get quite a lot of litter.

Fenton Reserve looks quite different today. There is no a beautiful veggie garden, some toys and a blackboard with chalk. The litter-problem is also greatly reduced.

The writer of the blurb above has made some valid points about the original state of this park but over the last four years it has undergone a much needed community-driven rethink and transformation. A very dedicated resident has planted out vegetable plots in a creative and organic way. Kids can get amongst the veggies, explore, pick and eat produce, draw on chalk boards, observe birds attracted to feeders and see compost in action. Oh and yes, they can also play shops if they want to. The shop fronts are a bakery, Australia Post, a grocer and a bank - places that people use so I disagree with the opinion above. Also, taxis serve a useful purpose in society for many people so I don't see a problem having it. In a nutshell, the playground was never exciting but it provides some activity and has become a nice back-drop for the main event which is the garden. There is a picnic table, a drinking fountain and lawn space for picnics. Public toilets are 100 metres away in Cotham Rd. Also not far from Kew public library, Alexander Gardens and Kew Courthouse arts precinct. For a small-scale Collingwood Childrens' Farm or CERES, check out this hidden gem in Fenton Way.
