Doug Ellis Pool Monash University (Clayton)

The Doug Ellis Swimming Pool at Monash University Clayton comprises three heated indoor pools under the one roof. All pools are open to the public and in addition to general swimming, learn to swim lessons, squad training, infant aquatics, adult learn to swim lessons, tri-swim squad training, fun days and swimming carnivals.

There are two 25 metre, 6 lane indoor heated pools, one of which has a "variable depth" floor. This means that the floor can be adjusted so that the effective depth of the pool is anywhere from 0 to 2.1 metres, making it equally suitable for beach entry family activities and for sports like waterpolo and SCUBA diving.

The main 25 metre pool, has a free form leisure pool attached, accomodating both lap swimming and small children. There is also a spa, sauna and steam room which adds another dimension to the family aquatic experience.

Our centre provides the Monash community and general public with a facility that is virtually unmatched in the area for flexibility and quality.

Infant Aquatics
Infant Aquatics aims to familiarise children and parents with the aquatic environment and to promote water confidence through participation in a wide variety of supervised aquatic activities. This program caters for children between the ages of 6 months to 4 years of age, before introducing them to our Learn to Swim program.

Learn to Swim
The Doug Ellis Swimming Pool offers one of Melbourne's best Learn to Swim Programs. All classes are conducted by experienced, AUSTSWIM qualified and caring staff in a fun and safe environment. Participants can progress through a graduated series of levels to become fully proficient swimmers. These lessons are graded according to ability and are offered at a variety of times.

Programs offered include:
  • Learn to Swim Program operating 7 days a week, 4 terms a year at competitive prices with small class sizes
  • Infant Aquatics for children from 6 months of age
  • Squad Programs catering for Stroke Development swimmers through to National Level competitors
  • All enrolled and fully paid students are entitled to free practice swimming outside of their lesson time.
The Doug Ellis Pool is located in the Monash Sport buildings (Building 1) at Clayton Campus. Most parking areas are ticketed and free after 4 p.m
