Learn to Swim Lessons
Toddler & Me (6 months - 2 years)
Our Toddler and Me lessons are the first step to introducing young children to the aquatic environment. The classes focus on water familiarisation through games, songs and structured activities. Children are taught skills such as floatation, kicking, breath control, submerging and body orientation in the water, with particular emphasis on safety around the water.

Toddlers can progress from a beginners class through to an advanced class. Each lesson runs for 30 minutes and a parent or guardian must be in the water with the child during this program.

Pre-School Classes (3 - 4 years)
The Pre-school lessons are designed to develop water confidence and introduce children to the fundamentals of swimming, through water safety skills and technique development. As children become more confident the emphasis moves from water familiarisation to stroke development.

Pre-schoolers can progress through the three levels from beginners to an advanced level. The lessons run for 30 minutes and have a maximum of four children per class.

School Age Classes (5 years and over)
Bayside Aquatics uses the Royal Life Saving Society's National "Swim and Survive" Program. Lessons run for 30 minutes and all levels focus on stroke development, survival and water safety skills. Children progress through a range of levels as follows:

Level D1 & 01
Focus: Water familiarisation, streamlining, kicking, submerging, introductory survival and rescue skills, safe entries and exits.
Class Ratio: 1:4

Level D2 & 02
Focus: Streamlining, freestyle and backstroke technique, survival backstroke, intermediate survival and rescues skills.
Class Ratio: 1:5

Level D3 & 03
Focus: Correct freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke technique, butterfly kick, extended survival and rescue techniques.
Class Ratio: 1:5

Level 4 & 5
Focus: Correct freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and sidestroke, extensive survival and rescue techniques and diving.
Class Ratio: 1:6

Intro Squad
Intro squad is for those progressing from the learn to swim program into our squad program. This squad provides an introduction to competitive swimming with the focus remaining on stroke technique and development.

Each session runs for 45 minutes and swimmers can participate one to two times per week.

Junior Squad
The Junior squad increases the swimmers workload. Racing preparation and techniques are introduced to the squad to prepare swimmers moving into the competition squads.

Session Details
Each session lasts 1 hour with participants encouraged to swim once or twice a week.

Private Lessons (all ages)
Bayside Aquatics at Mentone offers one on one private lessons to give your children an intense learning experience. This option, as a once off or over a couple of weeks, is a great way for children to concentrate on one or more specific skills which may be hindering their stroke development.
