Sky High Mt Dandenong Observatory and Maze (Mount Dandenong)

Sky High Mt Dandenong Observatory and Maze (Mount Dandenong)

Less than one hour from the Melbourne CBD you can be SkyHigh - on the uppermost reach of the Dandenong Ranges, amid cool fern glades and lush towering native forest, looking at the big picture, from the Mornington Peninsula across the majestic sweep of Port Phillip Bay, surrounded by Melbourne's growing urban fringes, to the You Yangs on the southern horizon. After sunset the southern sky, brilliant in the clear mountain night, is imitated by a spectacular carpet of city lights.

Attractions
SkyHigh Maze - Come and be amazed, discovering the four secret squares, hidden with in the SkyHigh maze. Around every corner a mystery awaits, filled with sculptures, illusions and butterflies. Stamp your passport along the way, once you've discovered all four collect your prize to become a SkyHigh maze master!

The Australiana Tree
.... was designed and sculptured by renowned artist Leigh (Roy) Conkie over 3 weeks in April & May 2006. When SkyHigh was redeveloped in 2004 the stump of this Eucalyptus Obliqua (Messmate) was approximately 8 metres high. The top 3 metres were lopped and used for the nearby seat and the balance was left to create this superb masterpiece!

Percy Possum's House
Inspired by classic children's stories, guaranteed to ignite their imagination.

Giants Chair
Igor the giant has lived in this region for hundreds of years. Igor likes nothing better than to sit at SkyHigh & enjoy the view, so we built him a chair! Feel free to enjoy it, but if Igor happens along, it would be smart to offer him his chair back!

Wishing tree
The legend of the wishing tree began around 1900. This area was heavily wooded and a 4 year old boy, Billy Langton became lost. His father searched everywhere and finally came to this spot. He wished he could find his son and as he looked through the circle in the tree he saw young Billy squatting beside the creek. Local legend says if you wish hard enough and look through the magic circle your wish will come true!

Parties:
For children's birthday parties, there's no better option than the maze house, where a model train does laps around the rafters.

After they've had their fill of cake, children can try their luck in our hedge maze, where four colourful stamps must be collected on a passport to escape.

We take the stress out of hosting children's parties, providing all the food and most importantly, we do all the cleaning up!

Review:

Worth a visit with a few activities available for the kids at a reasonable price. The Maze is quite simple and quick to pass through but ideal for young kids because they each get a large card which they can stamp with a huge stamper when they reach four areas of the maze. In fact, it is easy to cheat in this maze - just listen for the thumping sound of the stamper and try and make a beeline for the source of the sound.

The other attractions are not that great for kids - a tree with a glued door in the middle of the car park (Percy Possum's House), Spinning World Fountain, carved tree and a large wooden seat (Giant's Chair).

Parents can enjoy the view and the gardens. We spent about an hour going through the maze and visiting the other attractions.

There is a small BBQ area with tables ($2 for 10 minutes).
