Anderson Park Playground, Widford Street, Hawthorn East

Anderson Park Playground, Widford Street, Hawthorn East

A hidden gem. Beautifully sculptured playground set on three levels with structures and areas of artificial grass linking the levels.

Includes three nice wave slides, climbing walls, rope walkway, good sized rope climbing frame, spinning carousel, long flying fox, monkey bars, horizontal bars, skateboard springers, stand-on spinning disk, see-saw, various other springers, dune buggy for four people (with two steering wheels to avoid family conflicts over who will drive - although our kids still managed to fight over who should be in the front seat), tunnel slides, wooden walkway, coloured balls, colourful metal cow sculptures, chain ladders, suspended disks to walk across and a wooden statue.

Part of the playground is shaded and there are plenty of shaded seats. There is a BBQ and tables fairly close by. A lovely cricket/football ground in an amphitheatre type setting is next to the playground with views across to the Melbourne skyline. Absolutely top notch.

Anderson Park was bought by the Council in November 1911. The 5.6ha block was originally part of a plant nursery known as the Mount Ida Estate. There is a 1 km circuit around the park for walkers.

Anderson Park is home to South Hawthorn Tennis Club.

Access for Dogs:

The park is a dog off-leash area.
