Southern Reserve Playground, Huxley Avenue, Mulgrave
Does the fact that the swings rather than the play structure are under huge shade sails suggest something about the quality of the structure? Fortunately not in this case. The wooden structure has dual wave slides, stepping disk bridge, monkey bars, stepping stones, clock panel, tunnel, shop front, little climbing wall, steering wheel, steps, fireman's pole and rope ladder. There is also a kangaroo springer in this area.
Some rock paths lead to a mound with a boat shaped structure which has a wave slide down the slide of the mound and a rope spiders web climbing frame on top. There is also a path of tree stumps to follow.
Unshaded tables and seats and located next to an oval. The playground was upgraded in 2014.
Southern Reserve caters for soccer, cricket and tennis with the reserve being home to Dandenong Casuals Soccer Club, St Pauls Cricket Club, Colombo Sports Club and the Wellington Tennis Club. Other facilities include the Southern Community Centre, BBQ, off-lead dog area, pavilion and cricket nets.
