Victoria Park (North) Playground, Adeney Avenue, Kew

Victoria Park (North) Playground, Adeney Avenue, Kew

A super regional level playground which spreads out to incorporate a large range of play activities for all abilities and ages. The previous playground here had a long iconic metal slide built on a bluestone wall and embankment. The original slide has been replaced by an area which is much more feature rich. A new 4m metal tunnel slide which faces away from the summer sun plunges down from the back of the embankment. The slide at the top of the embankment can be reached by a winding concrete footpath or a shortcut via series of log steppers.

Around the base is a big stepper circuit with low log stumps, speak and listen system, two in-ground trampolines, small slick rock slide (be careful not to hit your head) and a small Ninja area with jumping pads, warped wall, rope scramble and hanging disk traverse to reach the top of the bluestone embankment.

This area also has five swings under shade sails (three standard swings, one harness seat swing and one expression swing) and a fast stand-on spinner. There are two shelters, each with one table and unshaded BBQs.

There is a 6m high rope climbing frame and rock steps and logs with cut steps lead down to a bamboo forest which is a big jungle of poles with footholds. With the rate at which bamboo grows, don't be surprised if it is double the height next time you visit.

There is an outdoor gym and a seniors exercise area under shade sails which features a range of exercise equipment designed for older people to help improve balance, strength, functional movement and a range of joint motion and mobility. A senior's card is not mandatory to use this equipment.

A highlight of the playground is a super pump track with steeply banked berms, rollers and even a volcano. This can be used by those with a scooter, bike or skateboard.

In one corner is a shaded, elevated sandpit with a water pump on the side where kids can pump water along a channel in a wooden log and then along concrete channels into the end of the sandpit. Below the elevated sandpit is another smaller unshaded sandpit, a metal framed tent frame (great for explorers who like to camp and climb). The frame can be used to build your own cubby. Look out for the possum sculptures hiding around here.

Another side of the playground has a flying fox with seat (the seat is hard to move to the other end after a ride) and a big birds nest swing.

As well as the shelters with their facilities, there are a few water taps scattered about, grassy areas and toilets.
