History of the Reserve
The reserve is named after Lois Twohig who was a Dandenong Councillor for North Ward from 1962-1969. Lois was elected as Dandenong's first female Mayor from 1968-69.

The Kelly family purchased a 20 acre farm in 1919 and this now forms Lois Twohig Reserve and storm water holding basin. The Kelly family was prominent in the area. They made a living selling milk, butter and eggs from the farm. After the death of her husband James in November 1924, Irene Kelly continued to manage the farm with her two children Bill and Jack.

At the beginning of Work War II, both Bill and Jack joined the war effort, leaving Irene to run the farm on her own. After the War, Bill and Jack returned to work in Dandenong and played football for the 'Dandenong Redlegs' including the Premiership sides of 1946/48. Irene passed away in June 1963. Today, Irene and James' descendants continue to take an interest in the Reserve.
