K Road Cliffs (Werribee South)

Take in the view from these stunning cliffs rising up from Werribee River. The K Road Cliffs in Werribee South are a breathtaking wall of red by day and are even more impressive during dusk and sunset when they change colour with the light.

The view from the cliff top takes in the Werribee River and the wetlands on the flood plain, with the peaked outline of the You Yangs forming an impressive backdrop.

The river and wetlands continue to provide habitat for water and migratory birds, as well as platypus making it the perfect place to get out those binoculars.

Across the river is Werribee River Park, which is another access point to the western side of the river. You can't access the cliffs, but you do have an amazing view. Werribee River Park offers several walking trails including easy boardwalk access down the escarpment.

Description of Walk

A short 600m return walk provides great viewpoints of the spectacular red cliffs rising above the Werribee River floodplains. Access is by a narrow walking track immediately south of the car park of the Werribee Park Golf Club. After a short distance there are some steps down to the floodplain below. There are a number of places to get great vistas of the cliffs and river on this walk but please be aware that the cliffs are unstable and are fenced off for your safety. The fencing is a bit damaged so take extra care with children. Also there is plenty of long grass so beware of snakes in the summer months.

400m south of this walk is a large carpark (where K Road makes a 90 degree turn) with a gazebo with seats and an unshaded table. At the north end, a slippery track leads down to and along the river bank with views of the cliffs. Another track leads along the top of the cliffs to the south.
