Ivanhoe Photographic Society (Heidelberg)
Ivanhoe Photographic Society was established in 1955 and is a small community club of around 40 members for people who are interested in the art of photography. We have members of all ages, all abilities and using all kinds of cameras. The club offers friendship, meetings, education, support and a range of photographic opportunities to members. The club meets in Heidelberg and does not have any geographic restrictions on membership. Members come from a wide geographic area of greater Melbourne.
Photography clubs are fundamentally about improving one's photography. The motivation and drive for this must come from you, but we strive to help you on the journey by providing advice and training where possible and, most importantly, through the challenge of photographic competitions.
We run competitions within the club, against other local clubs and also compete in international interclub competitions run by the PSA (Photographic Society of America). Members are also encouraged to enter national and international photographic exhibitions.
Competitions give you the opportunity to have your photographic art evaluated from the perspective of a range of unbiased and experienced photographic judges from outside the club and to benchmark your work against others within the club.
If competition is not your thing, you can still participate at the club level and have your photos evaluated by our judges for feedback purposes only.
If you dedicate yourself, actively participate and act on the feedback received, you will improve. This is a proven approach in which you, and those close to you, will be amazed at what can be created. A club provides a social environment in which you can explore and develop your photography.
If you are thinking of joining a photography club, you are welcome to come to our meetings at no cost, until such time as you want to commit to joining.
We meet on the first and third Monday of each month from February to November inclusive.
