History Monash (Oakleigh)

History Monash (Oakleigh)

History Monash is the former Oakleigh & District Historical Society Inc which was established in 1961. Our volunteers are dedicated to studying, collecting, preserving, exhibiting and publishing local history within the City of Monash, especially of Oakleigh and surrounding districts.

Our home is the Monash Federation Centre at 3 Atherton Road, Oakleigh, a former post office building built in 1924. We also support the heritage listed Oakleigh Pioneer Memorial Park Cemetery (1860-1960).

The Centre is a dedicated local history outlet in the City of Monash, offering changing exhibitions, an archive, reference collections, for-sale publications, brochures, postcards, and a research service.

History Monash Inc. is affiliated with the Royal Historical Society of Victoria Inc. and is a member of the Southern Metro History Group.

The purposes of the association are to foster the study, preservation and publishing of the history of Oakleigh & District. To these ends the Society will collect, catalogue, file and index the records and relics that may further that study, publish or republish such information and do all such additional things as may be considered by the Committee as necessary or desirable to give effect to the objects set out above.

Our archive contains photographs, cemetery records, some civic, club and school records, newspapers, manuscripts, maps, ephemera and artefacts, family histories and reference works.

Opening Hours:

Our collection may be viewed by appointment, during opening hours of the Monash Federation Centre between 10.00am to 5.00pm Tuesdays & Thursdays. Closed Public Holidays.
