Dinosaur Park Playground, Altezze Drive, Truganina
The playground is guarded by a climbable dinosaur head which leads to the top of some dual slides. For those not wanting to get so close to gnashing dinosaur teeth, there is also a ladder handily placed to get to the slides.
After getting past the first dinosaur, steps lead up to a tower with a Jurassic Park entrance to a tower. Cross the bridge to a multi-storey play tower and the first tunnel slide. Climb some small rope ladders and you can go down the bigger tunnel slide. Both slides have landing pads framed with dinosaur claws so be careful not to get slashed - it could be a painful and bloody experience.
There are two flying foxes, one with a disk seat and another with a harness seat. Also a big climbing net, some steep soft walls along the side of the playground area which can be ascended with the help of some parallel metal bars, stand-on spinner, a delightful dragonfly see-saw, a pit to search for fossils, a green dinosaur springer which seats two kids (or is that two portions of dinosaur breakfast?), dinosaur eggs with baby dinosaurs bursting out, dinosaur skeleton for budding palaeontologists, birds nest swing, two standard swings and spinning carousel.
There is a big shelter, which is a safe place away from marauding beasts, which has two big tables and a smaller table with BBQs, water tap and a grassy area dotted with young trees. Also some unshaded seats. The playground is not huge but has the Jurassic theme delightfully spun throughout. No toilets.
Dinosaur Park was built on a site that was covered by the eruption of the Mt Atkinson volcano six million years ago. Dinosaur bones were uncovered at the site which is source of inspiration for the theme of the playground.
