Dar al Awda Community Centre
Alawda is an Arabic word that means 'returning' or 'coming back'. But it also means 'welcome'. The Alawda Community Centre was established about 32 years ago.
The Community Centre strives to develop a supportive and caring network to help all members of the community and seeks to provide a wide range of opportunities to develop young people's skills in coping with life and rapid changes in society.

- Billiard tables
- Table tennis
- Computer, internet and e-mail one to one training
- Social games, backgammon, cards
- Quiz games
- Library (many books for reading or to borrow)
- Workshops, seminars, health information, education, law, immigration, taxation GST, Council Services, legal aid, translation, advice and referral service, meetings, etc.
- Saturday Language School
- The Centre also has one community bus to take the group and other people around.
- Volley Ball / Basketball
- Netball
- Translation and interpreting.
- Referral to relevant service providers.
- Finding suitable employment.
- Finding suitable housing.
- Help to fill out forms.
- Help for newly arrived migrants to settle in Australia.
- Arrange guest speakers from government departments and service providers to inform the public about the services available to them.
- Co-ordinate sports events and competitions between sports clubs, volleyball, table tennis, etc.
- Teaching Arabic to school students and adults.
- Learning how to use computers, internet, e-mail, etc.
- Teaching music and folkloric dance.
- Ongoing series of seminars conducted by Wendel Street Community Centre related to Council Services, government, State and Federal services, health issues, employment and education.
- Information sessions to raise community relations issues affecting the Australian Arabic speaking community.
- Ongoing research into Arabic Community relations issues.
