Danbury Park Equitation (Somerville)

Danbury Park Equitation (Somerville)

Danbury Park Equitation is an Equestrian Centre at Somerville on the Mornington Peninsula which caters for riders of all ages and skill levels.

Riders can learn on one of our well educated school horses, or can bring their own horse. We have facilities for riding indoors as well as outdoors, so all weather conditions are catered for.

Our services include the following:
  • Riding lessons for private students or groups
  • Day programmes (for children and adults)
  • Horse riding camps during the school holidays
  • Disabled riders (we are accredited with the RDA)
  • Discounted equestrian equipment
Riding Lessons
There is no fixed timetable for lessons - you choose when you want to come, how often you want to come, and how long you want to ride for. There is also no fixed number of lessons - you just pay for each lesson as you go.

Lessons last for either 25 minutes or 50 minutes, and can be held either privately or as a group lesson. Private lessons are typically one-on-one with the instructor and provide individual instruction. Group lessons involve two to five riders at the same time, and require that the rider has achieved a minimum level of competency. For beginning riders it is recommended that they take some private lessons first until they reach the required level of riding skill. Private lessons are also recommended for first time riders at Danbury Park so that the instructor can assess the level of riding skill before going into a group lesson.

Holiday Programmes
During school holidays we conduct Day Programmes and Camps for children of ages 5 to 15.

Day Programmes
Day programmes are run on weekdays during school holidays. The programmes provide an opportunity for children to experience all aspects of horse management, including catching the horses, grooming, saddling up and unsaddling after riding. Day programmes incorporate two lessons (morning and afternoon) and lunch and refreshments are included.

Previous riding experience is not necessary for camps or day programmes. Many children attend without ever having ridden a horse before. However some children feel more comfortable if they have had a private lesson before attending as they are then more familiar with the centre and have obtained some skills to get the most riding experience from their time with us. It is up to the parents to decide whether they want to give them a lesson before hand - we do not mind either way as we are used to teaching all levels of experience.

Camps
Camps are run four times a year and last for four days - one camp during each term break and one during the summer holidays. Camps are not residential, children are required to go home each evening and return the next morning.

The camps give children a perfect opportunity to learn all aspects of horse management while enjoying the social atmosphere of riding with other children who have similar interests. A Gymkhana is held on the final day of camp, which gives the children a chance to put their horse skills to the test to win ribbons and trophies while they participate in fun events.
