Burnley Gardens

Burnley Gardens

The University of Melbourne Burnley campus is situated within the beautiful heritage-listed Burnley Gardens, which are open to the public.

The nine-hectare gardens are home to nearly 1000 different species of plants, including some of the oldest trees in Melbourne. Located on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri people, the gardens have evolved since the 1860s as a location for research and teaching. Paths through the gardens are wheelchair-accessible.

Self-guided walk
An app has been created to help guide you through the horticultural history of the Gardens. Over 22 self-guided stops, you'll discover the gardens' history, design principles and current uses, and learn about the rare plants, specific garden beds, historical events, iconic trees and modern elements of green infrastructure featured.
