Brooks School of Dance (Hoppers Crossing)

Brooks School of Dance (Hoppers Crossing)

Brooks School of Dance was established in 2004. Our aim is to promote the love of dance and music amongst young people as well as adults. The philosophy behind the school's approach is that introducing dance at a young age provides a healthy physical activity in a fun and non stressful environment ensuring that dance becomes an integral part of a young person's life.

Additionally, classical ballet promotes good posture, strength, flexibility and coordination. As a character builder it encourages self-discipline and self-confidence. At the artistic level it develops an appreciation of music and at the same time is great fun.

Studio locations: 1/75 Elm Park Drive, Hoppers Crossing and Point Cook Community Learning Centre (Point Cook town centre)

Classes

Classical Ballet
Classical ballet provides the foundation for all other dance styles and therefore we place great emphasis on our ballet program. When a dancer turns 8 he/she commences the Russian Vaganova syllabus which emphasizes artistic expression in ballet together with a high level of technique. It is an 8 year program from beginners to professionals. At the advanced levels of ballet Pointe' work is also introduced. When starting "Ballet Beginners level 1" we highly recommend attending the class twice a week in order to excel in the challenging classical ballet technique. We offer a 50% discount on the second class if choosing to attend the classes twice a week.

Pre Ballet
These classes are structured as a combination of creative movement in preparation for classical ballet. We teach the basic postures and ballet movements using an integration of musical games and stories. Great emphasis is placed on coordination and flexibility. In this class we introduce new jumps, more complicated steps and stretches. The Pre- ballet class is suitable for children aged 6 and 7 year old.

Jazz and Lyrical
Jazz is a style of dance based on technical movement such as kicks, turns and jumps while at the same time encourages the development of the individual style, according to the music type. A Jazz class commences with a warm up, followed by technical exercises and a dance combination with fun, up-to-date music. Jazz classes are offered for ages 5-7: Jazz junior, ages 8-10: Jazz intermediate and ages 11 and up: Jazz and Lyrical advanced

Creative Movement
Our unique Creative Movement program has been developed over many years. This is a fun introduction to the world of dance. These classes are based on classical ballet and offer a rewarding experience of creative expression and are designed to enhance movement skills, imagination, musical and sensory awareness. In this class we explore physical concepts such as personal and shared space, directions, rhythm, speed, and energy. Our routine exercises include balance, strength, flexibility and coordination through which the children learn about the complexity of their own body, its movement range and controlling the movement. At the core of the lesson we use movement stories to stimulate the child's imagination. These stories are inspired by our everyday life. Each lesson has a different theme. Our Creative movement classes are divided to two levels according to age: Ages 3-4 Creative Movement level 1. Ages 4-5: Creative Movement level 2.
