Broadmeadows Women's Community House

The Broadmeadows Women's Community House was established over 40 years ago to provide opportunities for women and children to explore and develop their strengths, skills and confidence to be fully involved with their families and communities.

The Women's House team are qualified social workers and community development workers. They speak Arabic, Assyrian-Chaldean and Turkish as well as English. They are passionate about building strong relationships with communities and empowering families.

When necessary, trained staff refer clients to services in early childhood development, family violence, parenting support, drug and alcohol - or create programs as community interest and funding allows.

Broadmeadows Women's Community House provides:
  • Supported group activities facilitated by our skilled and bilingual workers
  • Parenting and lifestyle support
  • Social gatherings and community events
  • An opportunity for women to meet, connect and relax together
  • Connection to other agencies and services
  • Childcare and transport for certain groups

    English Conversation Classes
Broadmeadows Women's Community House offers English classes for refugee and migrant women. The classes focus on English reading, writing, listening, speaking and conversation and numeracy skills for everyday life and employment purposes. Lesson themes are taken from day-to-day living to help students actively participate in their new culture.

English classes are funded by the generous support of the Hume City Council.

    Women's Wellbeing Circle
The Broadmeadows Women's Community House Women's Wellbeing Circle is a safe space for women to meet, chat and do fun craft activities together online. Through sharing stories, friendships are formed. Group participants are from migrant/asylum seeker/refugee backgrounds some of whom do not have friends or family in Australia and are single parents, so this group is particularly valuable to these vulnerable women.

    Family violence groups
Broadmeadows Women's Community House holds groups for women who are experiencing family violence. Staff assist clients to assess their needs, set goals, consider options, and discuss their safety and other concerns. The women attending are encouraged to talk about their feelings and they are pointed towards the relevant services that they require.
