Brighton Cricket Club

Brighton Cricket Club, founded in 1842, is the second oldest cricket club in Australia, sporting a proud and successful history across juniors and seniors.

Brighton Cricket Club prides itself on being a competitive and successful club, promoting enjoyment, participation and mateship during games and after match functions. Through the hard work of the committee, supporters and sponsors, we have been able to provide excellent training, playing and social facilities in, as many regard, the best place to play cricket in the Bayside area. In recent years much work has been done to upgrade our home ground, Brighton Beach Oval with the installation of new turf, synthetic and turf practice wickets, and a LED scoreboard.

Brighton Cricket Club fields four senior teams in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association and a 5th XI in the Mercantile Cricket Association on Sundays. All senior teams play on turf wickets; the firsts and seconds at Brighton Beach Oval on the corner of South and Beach Roads, Brighton and the thirds and fourths at Donald MacDonald Reserve, in Keating Street, Black Rock.

We welcome new players to the club at any time to the club.

Brighton Cricket Club also pays high regard to the development of junior players with 13 junior teams. We have 5 Under 12s teams, 4 Under 14s, and 3 Under 16s playing in the South East Cricket Association on synthetic wickets as well as an Under 13 Girls team playing in the AGCC. Games are held on Wednesday afternoons for the girls, Friday nights for the U14s and U16s teams and Saturday mornings for U12s. Our junior teams play at different locations throughout the Brighton area with the main junior grounds at Whyte Street in Brighton (U12-14s) and Silitoe Reserve in Hampton (U16s).

The club also provides an under 15 team in the JG Craig competition run by the VSDCA in January each year. This provides talented junior players with the opportunity to play on the turf wickets on our main oval, providing a great chance to further develop their cricket. Trials are run in October of each season at Brighton Beach Oval.

Finally, the club runs the Milo in2Cricket (5 to 9 year olds) and T20 Blast (8-11 year olds) programs at Brighton Beach Oval on Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 11:00am. We have great support from our senior players and parents of the children for the program which runs for 12 weeks. During games children will each bowl and wicket-keep for two overs and bat in pairs for 4 overs - you cannot be out. When you are bowling, each wicket earns an extra 5 'runs' for the fielding team. T20 uses lighter cricket bats and rubber balls. Playing with a softer ball allows children to build confidence with their fielding.
